Redmi has taken India by a storm by conducting several online flash sales in which they have sold thousands of units of smartphones within a few seconds. After launching several hyper-successful budget smartphones, Xiaomi has come up with its latest smartphone that will fit your pocket and wallet just right.
The Redmi 4A is priced at the sweet price of 5,999 rupees and currently is being sold only on Amazon.com in India. This is a great phone both in terms of features as well as the price. Let us have a look at the specifications of the device.
Display Size and Resolution:
The Redmi 4A is a good sized device with a screen size of 5 inches and a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels giving it a pixel density of 296 ppi.
Although it might not be the best screen out there in the market with the best resolution as there are several other devices that are coming up with qhd and full HD screen, it certainly is good enough for the price range. However, as history is evident Xiaomi has given top notch specifications at a fairly low price. This means that the customers expected the screen size to be at least full HD if not qhd.
The processor on the device is fairly snappy and is expected to perform well while multi-tasking and playing graphic intensive games. The Redmi 4A is equipped with a 1.4ghz quad-core, Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor. Xiaomi has never cut corners in providing great processors on their devices. Unlike other companies who would have easily taken the easy road of providing a mediatek processor, Xiaomi did use a great Snapdragon processor.
Although it might not be able to run a very high-end game like N.O.V.A 3 on its software without a few glitches here and there, it certainly will perform exceptionally on running day-to-day social networking applications.
The Redmi 4A has a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixle front camera to take selfies. The camera specifications are just phenomenal considering that the device has a very small and affordable price tag.
Xiaomi has not had a great history with the cameras on their smartphones, however, they did not do very badly too. All in all, Xiaomi has done a pretty decent job with the cameras on their smartphones. Also considering the fact that Redmi devices focus on performance rather than cameras and appearances, the Redmi 4A has a great camera. Unlike other companies that can hardly afford to put a 12-megapixel camera on a device that costs more than 10,000 rupees, Xiaomi has done that at almost half that price.
The Redmi 4A runs on the now-outdated version of Android. The android marshmallow 6.0. Although it does run on the outdated version of Android it is still surprising that the company has come up with a 6.0 device and not a 5.0 device, as not many devices in the same price range currently run on the Android 6.0.
Also, there is nothing to be ashamed of in using the marshmallow on your device as only a very small percentage of the smartphone market is currently running on the newer version of Android, that is, the Android 7.0 Nougat, compared to 6.0.
The storage on the device is fairly decent as it comes with a 16 GB of internal memory that can be expanded by the usage of an external microsd card. Apart from this, it is coupled with 2 GB of RAM.
If you use your device for moderate purposes such as social networking and casual web browsing, there is enough RAM for you to carry out these processes without any lag on the device. However, you might not be able to run a heavy game and multi-task side by side without the device getting heated up and glitch.
The internal memory of the device is certainly enough to store the applications as well as the relevant application data. However, if you are a person who likes to carry a lot of the stuff on his/her phone like movies and TV shows, it might be a good idea to buy a microsd card for expansion. The device supports a microsd card up to 128 GB which is more than enough. The device is also capable of OTG support which allows you to access your thumb drive on the device via the OTG cable.
The Redmi 4A comes with a 3120mah battery.
Because the device has a smaller than average screen size of 5-inch and low pixels per inch resolution, the battery is expected to last at least a day and a half before you run out of juice. On moderate usage, the device’s battery can even be expected to last 2 full days. Xiaomi has done a great job by providing a great battery life on the device even though it does not feature a very powerful processor. Unlike other companies where the manufacturers do not care about the battery life as much as the processor specifications, Xiaomi has done wonders with a budget price and a large battery.
Connectivity and Sensors:
The device features a full-array of the basic sensors that come on an android device. Apart from this, the device also features a dual-sim tray which is capable of accessing two different sim cards at once. Unlike other companies that give a hybrid tray to accept one sim and one microsd card, the Redmi 4A comes with a dedicated microsd card slot so that you do not have to compromise on space if you use two different networks simultaneously.
Xiaomi Redmi 4A is a great device that you can buy at a small price. With a good processor, great camera and expandable storage this is one of the best budget smartphones currently available on the market. This phone is more than good enough to be used as your primary smartphone. However, if you are already using a smartphone and want to buy a second one as a part-time device, the Redmi 4A is a great choice.
